YouTuber Spotlight: Raya

Share your story of becoming a YouTuber. How did you get started?

I actually got started the way a lot of people do. I was joking around and uploaded a silly video. I didn't think anyone would see it. And then all of the sudden I had people asking for more and it spiraled from there. I really got into the community and realized I wanted to see if I could grow as big as some of my favorite YouTubers.

What do you love most about creating videos?

I love when I talk about something that bothers me, like a rant video or I give my opinion on something and get to hear how everyone else feels. It's so cool when I think I'm the only person who feels a certain way about something, and then I have people who are like "Whoa, I know exactly how you feel!" That's awesome. Even when I get people who feel the opposite or have a different opinion, it's cool too. It's like having thousands of friends with different ideas and views.

Describe your lifestyle (what makes you choose the things you review) and a few of your favorite brands. Who do you wish to work with in the future on a collaboration?

I actually really love fashion, so when I've gotten the chance to work with clothing lines that's always fun. Obviously anything tech is super cool and that's what my fans love too so I'm always down to work with the latest gadgets. I'm a huge Apple nerd, so they're definitely one of my favorite brands. I'd love to work with a cool, hip clothing company like American Apparel or Urban Outfitters. That would be crazy fun!

What is your current setup for shooting videos?

Right now I have a Canon t3i, which I really need to upgrade because I've been using it for years. I guess I'm just really comfortable with it. For my external mic I use a Rode mic. I absolutely love their products. And then I use a light mount on the top of my camera. I keep it pretty simple. I sit criss cross on the floor of my bedroom and just talk to the camera the same way I'd talk to my best friend!

What advice would you give to YouTubers just starting out?

Definitely do what makes you happy. If you love to sing - do that! Don't be nervous and decide to vlog instead. If you love magic, do magic videos! When people see that you're thoroughly enjoying what you're doing, they respond to that. It makes the video that much more fun to watch.

What do you like best about FameBit?

I love the fact that Famebit brings creators and companies together that maybe wouldn't of been able to work together otherwise. YouTube is huge and it's definitely becoming more mainstream, but it's still hard for creators to grow as a brand. And I think it's cool to have these giant brands right there to talk to and collaborate with.

A few faves please! (food, movie, quote, etc)

I absolutely love Italian food. I also really love breakfast food. I could eat breakfast for all three meals. I love all food, whatever lol. As for movies, my top three are probably When Harry Met Sally, Pulp Fiction, and The Usual Suspects. I have "There is a tide in the affairs of men" from Julius Caesar tattooed on me, so I guess that's gotta be my favorite quote!
